NFC East Updated Mock Draft-Three Rounds

Updated Mock Draft for NFC East-Three Rounds

Philadelphia Eagles:

1.4  Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
2.3  E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida St.
3.5  Johnathan Jenkins, NT, Georgia

The Eagles have a number of needs while installing a new offense and 3-4 defense.  Whatever they do at QB, they are going to have to address who is protecting him. If they did go defense, they would have a ton of talent to choose from at this position to help the transition. It’s tough to pass on Fisher though since he is considered the top tackle in the draft by some teams. Chip Kelly recruited E. J. Manuel out of high school, now he gets to choose where he plays. The Jenkins thing…crazy, I know. DT is so deep it is hard to find a spot for all of them. This is the farthest he has fallen and the Eagles get the value this time around.

Dallas Cowboys:
1.18  Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
2.15  Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
3.18  Barrett Jones, OG, Alabama

The Cowboys are making a switch on defense to a 4-3. Vaccaro has not been available for many updates, but he returns this time around. The Cowboys would love to have him while they make their transition. Like Jenkins to the Eagles, the Cowboys would have trouble passing on the value of Short. This is the latest we have had him going in some time, usually in the later first round. Taking Barrett Jones would add to the need on the interior line.

New York Giants:
1.19  Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
2.17  Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas -Pine Bluff
3.19  Darrius Slay, CB, Mississippi State

This is the fourth update we have had Werner here. His talent suggests he should go higher, but as the picks fall, he continues to fall to the Giants. We know they are not afraid to take a pass rusher, especially when it is a need and a top player available. Some would argue it isn’t a need given the talent they already have, but having a rotation has served the Giants well at DE. Armstead is projected to be a left tackle but can play right with Beatty resigned.

Washington Redskins:
2.19   Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State
3.23  Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall

The Redskins are watching their first round pick rehab in super fashion. RGIII’s performance in his rookie campaign has the skins feeling little pain for not having a first rounder this year. Safety is a big need for the Skins and Thomas would make a nice fit. He led college football in INTs in 2012. While WR is not a huge need, the Skins have to prepare for Santana Moss to eventually age out. Dobson is a big target to team with Pierre Garcon.

Updated Mock Draft with Three Rounds

We have an updated mock draft as we draw within two weeks of the 2013 NFL Draft. Enclosed you will find a package containing the first three rounds. This time around we have included the players that we have previously selected at each position. This can show how things change over the course of the process as stocks rise and fall, as well as free Agent moves making an impact. Here are some snippets of some of  the changes in this mock draft update…

1.12 Miami Dolphins: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama

*Previous Mocks: Xavier Rhoads, Cordarrelle Patterson, Dee Milliner, Eric Fisher

We have had Xavier Rhodes at this pick in the last three updates. This time around we have the Fins still thinking on the loss of Jake Long. It sounds like Jonathan Martin is going to make a move to left tackle. That could make it appear like they were comfortable letting Long go, but that will leave a need at RT. This move makes for a more seamless transition and continues to support their young QB.

1.17  Pittsburgh Steelers: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia

*Previous Mocks: Cordarrelle Patterson, Damontre Moore, Kenny Vaccaro, Dion Jordan, Manti Te’o, Bjoern Werner

The Steelers grab the best player on the board, who also fits a great need at passrusher. The aging defense gets a bump here. The last two picks we saw the Steelers look at WR, which could still be an option.

2.3   Eagles: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida St.

Chip Kelly recruited Manuel in high school. Now he gets a chance to make the choice of where he plays.

AFC South Updated Mock Draft-Three Rounds

Updated Mock Draft for AFC South-Three Rounds

Jacksonville Jaguars:
1.2 Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
2.1 Cornellius Carradine, DE,Florida State
3.2 Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut

This pick has had all kinds of mystery. The Jags would benefit by expressing interest in Smith, possibly influencing a team to jump ahead of them, giving them a choice of any player they are interested in. While they did send all their troops to his pro day, they are not raving about Smith. This could lead to the assumption that they don’t want to influence that jump. Waiting until the second round could have them picking a talent that is not a big upgrade over Gabbert. The next two picks have the Jags adding talent to the defense.

Tennessee Titans:
1.10  Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
2.8 Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky
3.8  Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi St.
3.35 Comp  John Simon, DE, Ohio State

It was very tempting to go with Jonathan Cooper here as the Titans can still use a top guard despite addressing the position in Free Agency. We stray  from the need to the impact of adding the player once thought to be the top prospect in the draft. Adding Lotulelei on the inside should open things up for the pass rush on the ends. This is a good example of when teams are out for the best football players, not just what is perceived as need. The Titans come back in the second round and grab the best guard on the board. If Banks were to fall into the third like this mock draft falls, they get a treat.

Indianapolis Colts:
1.24  Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
3.24 Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina

Trufant returns to the pick after falling to the Colts again. We have looked at defensive line here off and on when the talent warranted it. The Colts could also look at OL and pass rush, but the talent available fits the need at CB this time around. Another option could be to grab a WR to be the eventual replacement for Reggie Wayne. In the third round we have them grabbing their RB of the future with Bernard.

Houston Texans:
1.27  Robert Woods, WR, USC
2.25  David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado
3.27  Kevin Reddick, LB, North Carolina
3.33 Comp Michael Buchanan, OLB, Illinois

Up until this point, we have mocked the needed positions of WR and ILB to the Texans here. Woods comes in as the #2 WR here with the chance at being the eventual replacement for Andre Johnson. Bakhtiari comes in at Right tackle. The Texans come around in the third round filling those needs at linebacker with Reddick and Buchanan.

Updated Mock Draft for NFC South-Three Rounds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
1.13  Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
2.11   Zac Ertz, TE, Stanford
3.11  Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern State

Tampa Bay is in a position that they could go in a number of directions. Even with the possibility of a trade for Revis, the Bucs need more firepower at the corner position. Rhodes finally makes it past the Fins in this update, making the pick easy for the Bucs. While it will be tempting to select Tyler Eifert in the first round of this mock draft, getting Ertz in the second makes it easier that they passed. A third round value in Williams will give them someone to team up with Gerald McCoy on the inside of the D-Line.

Carolina Panthers:
1.14  Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
2.12  Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State

The Panthers could be a team that makes a surprise pick here. Specifically, we could see them adding the offensive talent of  Tavon Austin of the players available. Not quite yet. We have them continuing at DT, with Richardson coming back to this pick after Lotulelei went off the board earlier. Watson can come in at Right Tackle early, possibly moving left in the future.

New Orleans Saints:
1.15  Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
3.13  Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse

You may have heard that the Saints are moving to a 3-4 defense. They have a tough choice here between Mingo and Jarvis Jones, neither of which have fallen to them in recent updates. The real position of need is at Offensive Tackle, but there is not a player at this point of the mock draft that makes sense and the Saints won’t force it. We look for a later pick to battle with Jason Smith and Charles Brown. The third round has the Saints addressing the secondary. Despite the Jim Leonard signing, they can use help at Safety.

Atlanta Falcons:
1.30  Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
2.28  Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers
3.30  Jordan Mills, OT, Lousiana Tech

The Falcons appear to be starting over at the CB position with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes gone. With a solid Senior Bowl and Combine behind him, Taylor moves into the first round. Greene comes in to boost a LB corps that seems to be all Weatherspoon. The Falcons are down two tackles this offseason, Mills brings them back up one.

NFC West Updated Mock Draft-Three Rounds

Updated Mock Draft for NFC West-Three Rounds

Arizona Cardinals:

1.7  Ezekiel Ansah, OLB-DE, BYU
2.6  Matt Barkley, QB, USC
3.7 Trevardo Williams,OLB, Connecticut

The Cardinals get the short end of the OT stick here. With the top tackles off the board, we look to improving their pass rush. Ansah is considered by many to be a bit raw at the moment, but not so raw that he isn’t one of the top prospects in this draft class. QB is still an option here if the Cardinals want to dictate who takes over for Palmer rather than take who falls to them in the 2nd or 2014. In this updated they wait until the second round and grab Matt Barkley. The way the players fall, they add more pass rush depth with the third pick. We would have loved to have grabbed an OT for the Cards, but there is not a realistic (as realistic as a Mock Draft is) LT for the value when their picks come around.

St. Louis Rams:

1.16  Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
1.22 (fr. Washington): Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
2.14 Eric Reid, S, LSU
3.16  Jamie Collins, OLB, Southern Mississippi

Robert Griffin III is a great talent and will be a great QB in the NFL. With that said, the Rams are still winning that trade. This is the fifth update in a row we have Austin camped out here. If he makes it past Tampa and Carolina, we can’t see anything else for the Rams here with the first of two picks in the round. If Lacy makes it past the Bengals, we can see him going to the Rams with the bonus first rounder. After adding Jake Long, and Tavon Austin with their earlier pick, Lacy could be what they see as a missing puzzle piece for Bradford to take the next step after letting Steven Jackson go. The Rams defense is coming around and they grab two pieces to the puzzle with their next picks.

San Francisco 49ers:

1.31 Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida Int.
2.2 (fr Chiefs): Margus Hunt, DE, SMU
2.29 Jesse Williams, DT, 3-4 DE Alabama
3.12 (From Panthers): Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
3.31 Jordan Reed, TE, Florida

The 49ers have done a fantastic job at acquiring ammunition for the 2013 NFL Draft. This mock draft does not include trades, which is what we will most likely see the Niners do on draft day. They won’t have enough roster spots for all of their picks, so we can see them turning them into trade cash for the players they want. In the first round of this mock, Cyprien returns to the first round pick in this slot after the Niners looking at D-Line in the last two mocks. We have been looking at the Niners to make a move at Safety for a couple years. With all of the picks they have in this draft, they should land one that fits the value of the specific pick. They add depth on the defensive line and targets on offense with the remaining picks.

Seattle Seahawks:

2.24  Brian Winters, OT, Kent State
3.25  Vance McDonald, TE, Rice

We can count Percy Harvin as the Seahawks first round pick after the trade with the Vikings. Earlier in the process we had Tavon Austin going to the Seahawks, and apparently they had eyes for the same sort of threat, making a move for the the 1.0 version in Harvin. in this mock draft, we have the Seahawks giving Russell Wilson more help on offense with help on the line, as well as a target with McDonald.
